Mark Mathews
Pastor
I've been the pastor at Messiah since September 17, 2017. I was baptized in a Methodist church in Staples and I grew up in Brainerd, MN at Bethlehem Lutheran. I graduated from Hamline University with a degree in psychology/religion in 1985 and I attended Luther Seminary as a United Methodist student. I received my first call in Southern Minnesota on the border of Iowa, but I unfortunately developed a public speaking phobia and left the ministry for many years. In 2007 I was sponsored by my home congregation, Resurrection Lutheran in St. Joseph, to enter the ordained ministry in the ELCA. After a year internship at First Lutheran in Staples under Pastor Steve Sveom, I received my first call to Bethel Lutheran in Greenbush, MN by the northern border of Canada. In the eight years I was "up North" I also served Faith Lutheran church outside of Badger and First Lutheran Middle River. My interests are missions/outreach, studying Scripture/theology and prayer. Some of my hobbies are following Major League Baseball, working out, and watching movies.
I'm married to Rebecca (Reba) Mathews and have three sons--Johnathon (19), Parker (12) and Chase (8). We live in Barrett and really enjoy the area. If you need to contact me, my cell phone number is (218) 851-3153. I look forward to partnering in ministry with Messiah Lutheran in Hoffman.

Hello and welcome to Messiah Lutheran Church. Here is a little information about me: I am married, have five children; Taylor (24), Austin (23), Logan (21), Jada (18), and Jenna (15), two cats and two dogs. My passions are reading, learning, growing and sharing the Word of God. I enjoy nature and being outdoors as well as spending time with family and friends.

Hello, I was born and lived in Liberia until I was 12. Moved
to the U.S when I was in the 8th grade. Attended high school,
college and grad school in New York. Got my teaching
credential, married a Minnesota native. Brianna and I moved to
West Virginia for four years. We moved back to Minnesota in 2017 and since have a wonderful almost 3 year old, Josiah
Amos. I currently teach middle school science in Ashby.
Looking forward to the opportunity to work with kids in the
Hoffman area. Living and raising a family in rural country is
the absolute best way to go.
