Welcome to Messiah

The Advent Calendar

Once it starts getting colder out, I can't wait to decorate for Christmas, my favorite time of the year. I love decorating Christmas trees, putting up garlands, and lighting holiday scented candles. A favorite decoration of mine has always been the advent calendar, which counts down the days to Christmas Day. As the calendar counts down, a sense of expectancy and excitement grows.

In the bible, we learn that the Messiah has been prophesied for hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, instilling in people a sense of expectancy. As the Christmas story unfolds in the book of Luke, there's a feeling of excitement bubbling over as miraculous signs point to the birth of a child: the wise men following a star, shepherds witnessing a great host of angels proclaiming peace on earth, and Mary and Joseph's journey toward Bethlehem.

I love reliving the Christmas story each year, rejoicing with others at the birth of our Savior, which happened so long ago and yet is still so exciting. A God who is so far above us sends his Son, the long-expected child who came to save everyone who believes in Him.

May your hearts be filled with joy and peace this Christmas season.

Blessings in Christ,

Camilla Richter
